Winner of Best New Band and Best Country/Americana 2016 Connecticut Music Awards
Bluegrass poets with serious credentials, the Girls from Ruby Falls have had Connecticut singing along since they first waltzed onto the scene at the Glastonbury Apple Harvest Festival in 2015. Folks of all ages responded to the vivid story of Iris and Laurel Caulthorn, and their beautiful, musical tapestry of folk, storytelling, bluegrass and Americana music - a Tennessee Valley operetta against a timeless American landscape. The Girls’ performance at Glastonbury caught the attention of industry standard-bearer Telefunken Microphones, who asked them to be a part of their “Live from the Lab” video series. They also caught the eye of the internationally renowned Podunk Bluegrass Festival’s show runner, who immediately offered them a slot in the 2016 festival lineup, alongside acts like Del McCoury. The Girls from Ruby Falls went on to win Best New Band and Best Country/Americana at the Connecticut Music Awards in 2016, capping it off with a performance in the dome of the Oakdale Theatre.
Dreamed up by award-winning musicians Heather Fay (CTMA Best Folk 2015 and Best Singer/Songwriter 2016), and Sarah LeMieux (Best Jazz 2014/2015/2016 and Album of the Year 2015) - two women with the songwriting chops to land film placements, a show at Google headquarters and a spot on the One Compilation in between Bono and Bruce Springsteen - the Girls from Ruby Falls are rounded out by players who've graced stages from the Grand Ole Opry to the National Women in Blues Festival, the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Des Moines Opera, International Arts and Ideas Festival, CMJ, Podunk Bluegrass, Infinity Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center.
A true supergroup, the Girls from Ruby Falls evoke the beautiful, emotional vocals of Linda Rondstadt and Allison Krauss, the authentic, well-crafted songwriting of Dolly Parton and John Prine, the lush harmonies of Crosby, Stills and Nash and the bluesy chops of the Allman Brothers. A successful crowdfunding campaign followed by a summer of festival appearances brought the Girls back to Telefunken Studios to record their debut album, “Tennessee Wildflowers,” release date October of 2016.
